Regions Further Strengthens Commitment to Education with Launch of
306-African-American History Program
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
More than 150 Atlanta high school students were honored Tuesday for
their participation in the Regions Financial Scholars Program, a
financial education course designed to empower young people with the
essential skills needed to make sound financial decisions.
The course is offered to high school and university students in several
states. Regions
Bank (NYSE: RF) sponsors the interactive, web-based program which
was developed by leading education technology company, EverFi.
Regions and EverFi joined with Judge Glenda A. Hatchett, former chief
presiding judge of Fulton County, to honor participants from South
Atlanta and Booker T. Washington High Schools during an awards ceremony
at Morehouse College.
"It's critical to commend students on their past efforts and to push
them to think about their futures," Judge Hatchett said. "I am proud to
be a part of this celebration that accomplishes both."
Regions has partnered with EverFi to provide financial education to high
school and university students across eight states. The program covers a
variety of financial topics such as saving and financing higher
education.
"Education is at the heart of Regions' commitment to our communities,"
said Bill Askew, Senior Executive Vice President of Strategic
Initiatives, the group spearheading the creation of the Regions
Financial Education Institute. "We commend the students who have
completed the Regions Financial Scholars Program and are confident that
the skills they learned will provide a solid foundation for their
financial future. Since our partnership with EverFi began, Regions has
empowered more than 20,000 students and adults across the communities we
serve by connecting them with important and innovative resources."
In addition, Regions announced the launch of a new course through
EverFi, 306-African-American History, which seeks to inspire students
with the empowering stories and themes of African-American men and women
who have overcome obstacles to pave the way for future generations.
Through the use of technology and instructional design expertise,
historical events come to life using engaging digital media,
personalized learning simulations and robust assessment.
The launch of the 306 course comes in tandem with the Regions Riding
Forward Scholarship Essay Contest, which gives students an opportunity
to earn money for college. During the scholarship program's first two
years, Regions awarded a combined 57 scholarships totaling $245,000 to
high school and college students throughout the states Regions serves.
Regions will award 32 additional scholarships in 2014. For more
