There was the time she helped buy a car for a family in need. Friends
recall the day she emptied her wallet on the spot after learning of a
family who lost everything in a fire. Then there's Flaherty's 12 years
of service as a certified hospice volunteer.
It's because of that never-ending, community-minded, always-creative
commitment to making life better for others that Regions
Bank today announced Flaherty is receiving the company's highest
associate honor. Flaherty serves as a senior paralegal for Regions in
Hoover and the bank presented her Wednesday with the Better Life Award -
a recognition of her outstanding dedication and job performance, as well
as her exemplary involvement and commitment to the community.
"I joined the Future Homemakers of America club in ninth grade," she
recalled. "Every week, we would visit a senior citizens home or find
other ways to serve. It was all about young people giving back to the
community."
Over time, Flaherty reconnected with the organization, and, today, she
continues her devotion to the cause of Future Homemakers of America -
now called Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).
Flaherty has volunteered with the FCCLA chapter at Chelsea High School
in Chelsea for the past 10 years. The nonprofit encourages students to
make a difference in their families, careers and communities by
addressing important personal, work and societal issues through Family
and Consumer Sciences education.
"I serve on the board of advisors, participate in career days and teach
financial education lessons," Flaherty said. "I teach them the
importance of hard work and living up to their values. Most importantly,
I try to show them how to help others and to always be a friend to those
in need."
Together with the Better Life Award Flaherty is receiving, Regions is
donating $1,000 in her name to Chelsea High's FCCLA chapter.
Flaherty's community commitment and dedication to her career are further
illustrated in this
video on the Regions
Financial YouTube channel.
